Today was hot! It reached 100 degrees and was a bit sticky. Still, 100 degrees in New York somehow seems different than 100 degrees in Missouri. (Slightly less humidity helps a little.) I had planned a mostly indoor day, but it didn't turn out to be very cool. I finally went to the Merchant's House Museum. I was a home on 4th St in the 1800s and early 1900s. The family that lived there stayed until the last child died there in the 1930s. Then a relative turned it into a museum with almost everything intact. It was fun to see how they lived, but it was, of course, unairconditioned.

The sign reads "Don't be a rat- become a member of the Merchant's House Museum.
I loved the kitchen!
Call bells! Like in Cinderella!

After the museum I was hungry, so I stopped at the Food Emporium for a quick lunch. It was pretty disappointing, but I guess you have to have unimpressive food in order to have amazing food. And at least it was a nice break from the heat!
The next stop was the Lion Brand Yarn Store. It had a smaller selection than I had expected but the atmosphere was great!
They had these cute knit things on random places outside. This is one of my favorite pictures of all!
Then I made my way to a drugstore that would be about the 5th step in my ridiculous quest for pepper spray. In New York you can only have pepper spray if you buy a certain kind at one of a select few authorized stores. On the way to this drugstore I stopped at a little health food place that advertised fresh juices. I ordered apple juice and the cashier went over to the counter, but up a few apples, and stuck them in the juicer. It was delicious! It makes me want a juicer!
So, eventually I made it to where the store used to be. It was gone and my search for pepper spray continued.
At this point it was too hot to keep wandering around so I went home around 4:30 and took a wonderful cool shower. At 6ish I headed out for my first show this trip. It was a Seth Rudetsky "review" (I'm not quite sure what you'd really call it: here's a lovely video of a previous performance. Disregard Bruce Vilanch at the beginning.) Seth Rudetsky is a funny musician/pianist/Broadway aficionado who comedically analyzes all things Broadway (for real, you should check out the link).
Not the most flattering picture, but I didn't want to be creepy with the picture taking.
The show was at a small Upper West Side theater/bar called The Triad. It was a really cool little place.

The menu. It's drinks only and very expensive, but the show itself is really cheap and they have to make money somehow.

And just down the street from this. I didn't go there.
I stuck around after the show, partly to take these pictures and partly to gladys (a term coined by Ryan and Matt meaning to spy, eavesdrop, or nose around in other people's business) on the star's conversations.
It was a lovely evening! Now I'm home and preparing for my first day of interning!
Sounds like an adventurous day. I enjoyed the video of Seth. He's a natural, and I like his humor. Glad to hear you're looking for pepper spray. In a big city, anywhere really, we always must be vigilant. At night, more so. Have fun learning at your internship, Alie. It sounds like a cool place to work. And finally, I too really like the knitting around the street pole. Pretty cute! Lots of love.
