Gilly and I had another lazy day around the apartment. We both slept in since we were out at the movie so late. I worked on a lot of knitting today. I finished the second panel of the rug I'm knitting. I ran out of yarn, so I'm going to the Lion Brand yarn store tomorrow! I'm excited to see what it's like!
We were thinking about going to the park or the beach to watch the fireworks, but when we did some research we found that they moved the display from the East River (between Brooklyn and Manhattan) to the Hudson (between Manhattan and New Jersey) in 2008. The train ride to the crowds of people in Manhattan would be about an hour plus a lengthy walk, so we decided to go out on the roof to try to catch a glimpse from far away. I'm glad we stayed home. Though we're pretty sure it's illegal, there were a few neighbors shooting off fireworks. We could also see the fireworks way off in the distance.
This is the view from the back roof. The church bell tower on the right often plays nice tunes. It's such a nice view because you can see the pleasant neighborhood, but you can also see the twinkling lights of Manhattan far off. We'd really like to get lawn chairs to put out on the roof.
Fireworks on the other side of Manhattan. I like the little glow you can see along the horizon.
Some more fireworks
One of the illegal fireworks a couple houses down. I love this picture. The light on the house next door looks so cool!
In this video we're watching the fireworks in Manhattan and then a huge bang went off down the street. No pretty fireworks resulted, but it sure was loud! Also, a couple houses down the other way there was a loud music party going on. It was somewhat ironic, but fun!
The Manhattan fireworks accompanied by the neighbors' music.
Happy 4th to everyone!
