It was another great day interning! I love the 11-6 hours. I can get up late-ish and still have time to hang around, make my lunch, get ready and make the 45 minute commute. The work day started off with my first intern errand: a quick walk to the post office (the same one I went to yesterday and the same slightly creepy postal worker). When I got back there was another errand to do. I got to buzz my first New York apartment to deliver a package! I got rained on a bit on the walk back, but it was infinitely better than last week's heat. It turns out, the office is pretty comfortable when it's not 103 degrees outside! The circuit blows occasionally and they thought it was because of the many computers, fans, and windows units plugged in. However, today we learned that there is actually an electrical problem, so now we're set with better functioning climate control. Then I helped organize my area with Rachel (not Grady, Lainey, different one) who I share my table with. I really like her. Last week she got food poisoning from her lunch of Mexican tuna salad (yikes!) and had to go home early, but she's healthy this week and is very nice. We took a big pile of recycling to the trash room together and had a very nice chat. New friend? I hope so! I also got to meet the directors, Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady. They are both very nice and they're characters! Lainey, Rachel is expecting a baby in September!
Later I unpacked and organized the equipment from the Detroit shoot last week and worked on researching stories for the MTV project again. It's fun to see what everyone has come up with and I'm excited to be adding my own ideas to the mix. Mid-afternoon I got to make another delivery, this time to Versace! Rachel C. (the one I share a table with) was working on a couple spotlight pieces about extraordinary women for Glamour magazine and Donatella Versace is one of them. The office is on Madison Ave. on the 21st floor. I had to pop my ears a little on the way up! The office was pretty fancy and official looking, but I was only there for about 5 seconds. Still pretty cool though!
I really wish it didn't seem weird to take pictures on the subway. I would be afraid someone would try to beat me up if I did. There are so many interesting visual scenes going on on the trains. Today there was a woman with a pomeranian in a bag on her lap. The dog was curled up on its back with it's tongue lolling out to the side and the woman was feeding it bits of hamburger bun! It was so entertaining, but there's really no inconspicuous way to photograph people in such a small space.
It was a nice day overall. Laundry tomorrow!
Today's picture is the kitties eating. Dusty's waiting so patiently!
Now that's a scary picture! Worth a delete, I'm afraid. Dear Blog World, she's really cute. Really.
